July 18th and 19th, 2009, 11am - 6pm

The Big Bear Valley Renaissance Society, Inc. and the Old Miners Association are delighted to announce the 1800's Country Fair and Loggers Jubilee at the BBVRSI permanent site on the north shore of Big Bear Lake!

Named as one of Westways Magazine's
"Top Five Worth The Drive" events in the western states!

Hosted in the lovely little town of Fawnskin, the event will showcase the entire nineteenth century, including Victoriana, pioneers, the wild west, old miners, loggers, and the American civil war. Come prepared to encounter literary characters and authors, historical figures, shoot outs in the streets, arrests and judgments from the "hangin' judge." There will be period entertainment and games. The Loggers Jubilee competitions, featuring everything from pole-climbing to tomahawk throwing to chainsaw events and more, will be open to the general public, but experience is needed for reasons of safety. There will be trophies, cash prizes, and a saw given away!

The FREE children's events will start at noon and go until 3 pm. There will be all your favorites: wheelbarrow races, gunny sack races, an obstacle course, balloon toss, stick pony races, tug of War, a watermelon eating contest and MORE.... Registration begins at 11am till noon. In addition, the children's area will have games and crafts befitting an 1800's Country Fair. Lots of PRIZES and fun for all!!

While not all visitors come in costume, a great many do. The site will be set up to cover both American Old West and English Victorian with vendors and five stage's worth of entertainment of both as well as performers filling the streets: watch out that you don't get caught up in a shoot out or thrown in jail! Of course, if you want to have someone arrested, we can swear out an arrest warrant for whatever charge you can dream up... Of course, the Loggers Jubilee events will be the foremost entertainment in the arena area with contests going on throughout both days.

Recently added to the schedule of events is an Old Time Poker Tournament, featuring Texas Hold 'em, Black Jack, Dealer's Choice Poker, and a Big 5 Dice Game. There will be Trophy for each day's winner and a nice plaque for the Best Overall 2-day Total Winner. Buy In Donations will be $10.00 per entry, giving the person who is donating $100.00 of poker chips or scrip, as well as 1 ticket for a "Special Drawing" at the day's end. Re-entry and additional buy ins will be $5.00, giving the same amount of scrip ($100 game money.) Games will be played all day.

All first time buy-ins must have their name recorded to be able to re-buy if they go broke. NO Poker Chips may Leave the game area at any time. They must be turned in for a marked scrip voucher at the cashier's table. The voucher can be reused for chips on that day only.

And, to kick things off, the opening of the Country Fair and Logger's Jubilee will be proceeded by the annual Fawnskin Doo Dah Parade, which runs 10-11am, Saturday morning.

Both the Bear Valley Renaissance Society, Inc., and the Old Miners Association are 501(c)3 non-profit organizations. Profits from the 1800's Country Fair and Logger's Jubilee will go to educational endeavors.
